Las investigaciones vinculadas con creep, entregan información mecánica valiosa como análisis de ruptura o niveles de plasticidad en cada material, en resumen límites para aplicar esfuerzos o deformaciones.
En la naturaleza algunos fenómenos vinculados con este comportamiento, por ejemplo, los terremotos son eventos en los cuales dos superficies están "apretándose" con una fuerza constante y es posible que ninguna se mueva, pero considerando la magnitud de la fuerza constante y en sentido contrario... en algún momento, el sistema cede... es decir, podría provocarse una subducción, una de las capas se levanta mientras la otra se mete bajo ella, esto producto de las presiones entre las capas. Otro fenómeno a mencionar podría ser un Alud, en el cual tienen una masa de barro sometida a un esfuerzo constante que puede estar dado por la gravedad y se mantiene estable pero en algún momento el material cede y cae todo el lodo.
Por otra parte, también hay una acepción usada por Radiohead, en la canción que lleva por título justamente "Creep"
